Tour def Force by
You Me at Six

You Me at Six have been working extremely hard over the last few years, touring, touring and then a little more touring.
They played at Reading and Leeds festivals last year and shared the stage with tour mates Paramour and heroes Blink 182, so impressed where Blink 182 that they invited YMAS to support them in 2011.Wow.

So 2011 is looking really good; a new album in the pipeline as well as their latest single release out on February 13, ‘Rescue me' a collaboration with Chiddy, on Tour with Blink 182, it looks like You me at Six are going to be in your face and they don't plan on getting out of the way any time soon.

Our youngest writer, Danni Murphy, had a one-to-one with You Me at Six frontman, Josh, and here's what he had to say...

D: Who would you say is your biggest influence?

J: Bands i listened to when i was growing up like blink 182, brand new, stuff like that basically shapes what You Me at Six sounded like originally and now we've kind of found our own sound and our own thing.

D: You are going on tour with blink 182; how are you feeling about that?

J: Yeah it's really great obviously, like we were very, very happy when we found out. We where asked during the last year tour, and its just gonna be a massively insane experience and it should be great.

D: You've got a new single due to be released, Rescue Me, can you tell me a little about that?

J: Were sitting around really bored, as we were waiting to go on tour and our label asked us if we wanted to just go mess around in the studio with this guy that is town at the moment. We were like "yeah!" We went down and we wrote a song with our producer, our label really liked it and they got us a rapper from our label, a guy called Chiddy and it just went from there and now we are releasing it; so that's pretty much how it all happened.

D: What has been your favourite moment so far with You me at Six?

J: Probably playing The Reading and Leeds festivals, last year, for sure because we took the main stage and we played to thousands of people across the weekend; your just like looking at them, seeing this huge crowd of people reacting to your music and it's just insane!.
That was the moment where we all sat back and realised what the band has achieved so far, you know, seeing all the hard work paying off and it was just a massive, massive moment for our band.

D: What would you say is an absolute must have to survive in the music industry?

J: First of all I think if you don't believe in your own band and what your doing then you might as well give up. At the end of the day you just wanna sell yourself and your art to people, you have got hundreds of other musicians and other bands out there, I think our band can go far; I mean in a sense I hope it does. I believe we have the potential to go there, but I think you have to have a lot of patience and all the way through your career you have got to try and be respectful and  you have to respect people, you never know who you are going to meet on your way up, or on your way down. It's all about the respect factor. Even if we are really pissed off with our label, and want to give them a piece of our mind, we have got to remember that they're the ones that pay us. and we have to try and realise that it's not that they want to go completely against what we want, but that they are just trying to help us to shape our career.

D: Do you prefer the smaller gigs or the bigger ones?

J: Well the smaller gigs sometimes can be more fun because they're more intimate and there are less people there. It's a bit more crazy than the bigger gigs. We always tend to put on  some kind of production with the lights... but we prefer both really they both have their own vibe.

D: What were you doing before you started the band?.

J: School; I was only 16 but I was singing when I was 15 then I left school and I went to college and joined a band. Kerrang wrote an article about us and it was the biggest thing in the world at the time and I've never looked back really.

D: And what advice would you give someone who's in a band?

J: Pretty much give the same advice that I used myself; enjoy what you do, get out on tour as much as possible. Make as many friends as possible; obviously look out for real friendships but make friends and get on with people as much as you can. Not every band out there can be a Paramore or Fallout Boy, but there are opportunities for everyone out there. If they want them they just have to go find them and get them. But most importantly enjoy it!

Rescue Me with Guest Chiddy is out on February13 on Virgin Records.
