Matt Cardle who shot to fame via X Factor, in 2010, and became the winner of the seventh series is a busy, busy man. That said, I managed to track him down as he shakes off the shackles and stigma of the X Factor and is about to release his debut Album.
Letters is a five track album which carries elements of Coldplay – Snow Patrol and hints of James Morrison.
Matt penned most of the album with guidance and help from Eg White. Eg is a renowned writer who has worked with the likes of Duffy, Adele and James Morrison, to name but three.
How did the title come about?
Well, Letters came as I was flicking through my lyric book and the lyrics looked like letters, I suppose that’s what they are really, letters explaining a given situation.
Are all the songs yours?
No Gary Barlow wrote Run for Your Life which is about losing a woman and not treating her they way you should, or giving her the things that she wants and needs.
What like money?
No, not like money.
What’s your fave on the Letters Album?
My favourite track on there is, I think, All for Nothing.
You have made your name via The X Factor, do you feel that you are on your own, now, standing on a cliff and do you feel you have something to prove?
Standing on a cliff, yeah... I do actually, only I want to fly not fall and as for something to prove I think that, wherever or however you are making an album, you have something to prove to yourself in as much as you want to produce a really great piece of work and I think I have done a decent job with this album; I have worked no- stop, writing here, there and everywhere and I look forward to the launch..
How hard has this year been and have you had any time off yet?
I’ve wanted this for so long and have had such a great time so I’m not bothered about working as much as I have and no, I haven’t had a break yet but I’m loving it.
This time last year you were with a band Seven Summers, have you worked with any of the lads on this album? (They were a really good band by the way check ‘em out on You Tube).
The lads have set up a new band are doing really well, they are called Degrees, the band I have playing with me are close friends and consists of myself, Tom, Paul, Remmy and Lorenzo.
If you could be in any band for a day, who would you join?
That’s easy, Rage against the Machine.
Musical Hero?
Got to be Michael Jackson, or Kurt Cobain.
What have you been busy with lately?
I’m on a radio tour at the moment, doing interviews and just gearing up for the launch.
Today is September 9, where were you 10 years ago to this day?
I was actually at Braintree College; I remember walking down the corridors when all of a sudden people started appearing from nowhere talking incessantly about the developments.
What has been the best thing about the whole year?
The best thing has been to actually write the album and get it finished. It’s been such a buzz and to know that the majority of the tracks are my very own has made it even more special.
Have you yet used the line: “Do you know who I am”?
No way, and if I ever did I would have to give myself a slap and give it all up.
X Factor is back on telly, have you managed to watch it yet?
No, not yet, I’ve just been so busy.
Do you find yourself having trouble pulling the birds with all this new found fame?
Ha, ha! No not at all, funnily enough.
Matt Launched Letters on October 17 and the album is
